50th anniversary interviews

Jara Varela

Photographer

What values would you highlight about Mobles 114?

The virtue of their human touch.

There is an intrinsic quality to Mobles 114: the appreciation and admiration of good workmanship in functional and durable timeless designs from the history of design and architecture.

In your opinion, what is the most iconic product in the catalog?

The ONA coat rack. One of those pieces that any designer would have liked to create.

What was your collaboration with Mobles 114 like?

It was like photographing a lake in early autumn on a windless day. Working with the team brings harmony and peace, and entices me to admire such a lake with them.

Meritxell Arjalaguer x Mobles 114 Summer 2024

«LET SUMMER BE… REST, SWALLOWS, STARRY ROOFS, SILENCES, EXCITEMENT, SWEAT, DESIRE, COLD, HEAT, PLAY, SUN, MIMOSAS, SALTY SKIN, ENDLESS NIGHTS, FAMILY, IMMERSING IN SPLENDID DAYS, DOING NOTHING, SAILING, CALM, SMILES IN THE EYES, OUTDOOR CINEMA, LONG HUGS, SAND EVERYWHERE, BOOKS, FISHING, ROCKS, WALKING, GETTING NAKED IN THE RIVER, DELICIOUS FOOD, JOY, WINE, NON-STOP DIVING, ICE CREAM, FRIENDS, CONNECTION, DANCING ALL OVER, LETTING THE WIND MESS OUR HAIR UP, DISCOVERING NEW PLACES, GOING ON TRAILS, SEA, PLEASURE, SHARING, EATING PEACHES…»

Every July, Mobles 114 invites an artist, designer or photographer to create a greeting to celebrate the summer. This year we have Meritxell Arjalaguer, who introduces her proposal.

We have worked with Meritxell on numerous occasions over the years and therefore we have dared to synthesize her essence in a few aphorisms:

Knowing how to look in front of the camera   |   Wanting to be anonymous for the reality in the photograph   |   Wanting to be anonymous   |   Reading the light and using it responsibly   |   Staying behind the photograph   |   Understanding the composition in a natural way   |   Being critical   |   Conveying energy, not giving out   |   Knowing how to look through the camera   |   Knowing how to live and how to laugh   |   Not pushing, knowing how to say no   |   Being authentic, honest

It is in personal works that we find the affinities that we share: these photos speak to us, guide us.
